Corporate Bank Account in the UAE
The least predictable stage of the whole launch. The company will be registered quickly; the account is opened by banks, and they have their own logic, their own lists and their own timelines.
What the bank looks at
- Ownership structure and ultimate beneficial owners
- Nationality and tax residence of the beneficial owners
- A real business: contracts, counterparties, track record
- Source of funds — with documents
- Whether the activity matches the declared turnover
- Physical presence in the UAE: visa, address, office
Why banks refuse
- An opaque ownership chain
- An activity the bank treats as high-risk
- No verifiable business — a "company for the future"
- Mismatch between what is declared and what is real
- Sanctions exposure through counterparties or countries
Nationality and residence: what changes in practice
Nationality on its own is rarely a ground for refusal, but it sets the depth of the review. The bank will look at who your counterparties are and where they sit, whether they or their correspondent banks are subject to restrictions, and where the money historically came from. Non-residents without a UAE visa and address face the longest path. Expectations of "three days" do not work here; a complete file, with a document ready for every question, does. And note: a bank may refuse without giving reasons, and in practice such a refusal is not contested — which is why preparation matters more than any introduction.
How to improve the odds
- Align the zone and activity with the bank's requirements before registration
- Prepare a clear business description and supporting documents
- Hold a residence visa and have a UAE address
- Do not apply to five banks at once — it shows, and it hurts
- Prepare for the meeting: the bank talks to the beneficial owner in person
What good preparation looks like
A one-page description of the business: what you sell, to whom, where the money comes from, who the counterparties are. Contracts, or at least letters of intent. Source-of-wealth documents with a traceable chain, not "savings". A residence visa and an address. And consistency: everything you say in the bank must match the licence and the documents.
What the bank does not forgive
Discrepancies. If the licence says consulting and the account receives payments for goods; if one person is named as beneficial owner and another actually makes the decisions; if the amounts do not match the declared turnover — the question is closed against you, often without explanation.
After opening
The account is not the finish line. The bank keeps monitoring transactions, and compliance requests arrive regularly. Answering them on time and in one structured package is the only way to avoid a freeze six months after opening.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take?
The range is wide and depends on the bank and the structure. We give honest estimates after reviewing your case; promises of "three days" are a warning sign.
Can the account be opened remotely?
As a rule, the bank requires a personal meeting with the beneficial owner. Exceptions exist, but do not plan around them.
What if we are refused?
Understand the reason as far as possible, fix the structure or the file, and go to the next bank — but not to all of them at once. Resubmitting the same file gives the same result.
